Noah Charney and I have studied animal tracking together since 1999, and have taught tracking workshops together since 2004. In courses lasting four to eight days, we take participants to various sites in western Massachusetts, finding tracks and sign of as many species as possible. Rather than simply teaching track identification, we emphasize ecological relationships, exploring how animals interact with vegetation and other features of the landscape. We make sure to visit a variety of habitats, including forests, fields, shrublands, wetlands, and developed areas. As opportunities arise along the way, we discuss bird vocalizations, plant identification, and other natural history tidbits.
We are also available to lead custom tracking workshops. For more information, contact Noah at ndcharney(AT)gmail(DOT)com or Charley at ceiseman(AT)gmail(DOT)com.
Both of us have earned Track and Sign Level III certificates from Cybertracker Conservation (check here to read about what this entails). We are currently working on a book on invertebrate tracks and sign.
